Albuquerque Transportation
If you are planning on exploring the beautiful countryside of New Mexico close to Albuquerque, then you will need to arrange some kind of transportation in advance of your trip. The mountain roads of the Sandia mountains are passable in a regular car, but in order to see the most stunning scenery, and really get back to nature, then renting an SUV or Sports Utility Vehicle in Albuquerque is highly recommended, and will really open up the wilderness to you.
Many of the most amazing attractions in the region can only be arrived at after a lengthy drive off road, and unless you have a Albuquerque transportation that is capable of actually getting you to them, you will miss out on the best of what the region has to offer, and not get as much out of your visit to Albuquerque as you otherwise might.
If your plan is mainly to stay within the city of Albuquerque itself, then you will clearly not need the same kind of vehicle as you do for exploring the countryside and a small compact or economy car will provide much better value for money. You will have plenty of storage space for shopping trips, and the car can easily handle the light traffic that is present in Albuquerque.
Although Albuquerque is not as large as some other cities in the USA, it still has a pretty extensive public transport system, and buses run regularly through the main city areas, although they can get very busy during the morning rush to work thanks to the excellent value for money that they offer.
As far as getting from the airport into the city center goes, a taxi is probably your best bet in Albuquerque. The journey to the main hotels will only take around 20 minutes depending on the volume of traffic, and the fare will be approximately $25. The drivers are not so sharp about getting a tip as they are in New York, but still expect around 10% of the fare (rounded up to the nearest dollar!).
There are a number of limousine services in Albuquerque, and if you are planning a special night out, or want to tour the city in style, then hiring one for the night is an excellent option, and will generally provide good value for money compared to multiple taxis if there are a group of you using it.
